Introduction to Calligraphy

Calligraphy is an ancient form of art which is also used in the modern era. It involves the creation of words in a beautiful and decorative form of writing that Different cultures or regions developed different forms of calligraphy by their unique styles and techniques. It's always not about forming artistic expressions by calligraphy but it also shows the emotions, feelings and way of communication.

Types of Calligraphies in different era

If I talk about western calligraphy, its roots start from ancient Rome and Greece. It involves through the mediaeval period with scripts like uncial and Carolingian, leading to the Renaissance  and the development of Italic and copperplate scripts. The uncial script developed in the 2nd or 3rd century AD, influenced by the Greek alphabet. This script is characterized by bold and curved strokes, and was simpler than the Roman capitals, allowing for speedier writing, ideal for copying manuscripts such as holy scriptures. Carolingian script is varied from the uncial scripts developed as its influence travelled to other parts of Europe. This was also an important script of the mediaeval era developed during the reign of Charlemagne in the late 8th century. 

If I Talk about Chinese calligraphy, it started from over 2000 years ago. It emphasizes the beauty of brushwork, characters, and balance. Chinese alphabets convey more than phonetic sound or semantic meaning. Traditional writings about calligraphy suggest that written words play multiple roles: not only does a character denote specific meanings, but its very form should reveal itself to be a moral exemplar, as well as a manifestation of the energy of the human body and the vitality of nature itself.
